ENUSEC‘s Le Tour Du Hack, a student-led ethical hacking Capture the Flag event, will return for the third consecutive year, bringing together students from across the UK to learn, develop and test their cyber skills over two days of challenges.

This year’s flagship event will be hosted at George Watson’s College on Saturday 23rd March and is set to attract more than 300 attendees from a range of backgrounds; bringing together representatives from academia and industry.

ENUSEC is Edinburgh Napier University’s Security Society, comprised largely of members studying within the University’s School of Computing.

In a different format to previous events, Le Tour Du Hack 2019 will consist of a traditional 2-track conference, featuring student and industry speakers. This year’s event will feature Stu Peck as keynote speaker, who will discuss some of the key topics permeating the cybersecurity space in 2019 and beyond.

As well as industry speakers, the conference also aims to give cybersecurity students a platform to discuss issues surrounding cybersecurity in 2019, ENUSEC said.

“The educational ethos which always has underpinned Le Tour Du Hack will carry over to this conference; providing the opportunity for fellow students to gain public speaking experience. There will be original conference talks showcasing compelling research, fascinating experiences, interesting findings or unique perspectives,” ENUSEC President, Jamie O’Hare said.

Day two of the 2019 conference will follow a similar style to previous years, with a focus on engaging, practical and technical content as well as the popular Capture the Flag event.

This year’s CTF will be a single-day event on Sunday 24th of March. Following presentations on fresh industry research and experiences, attendees will be given the chance to solve a series of challenges in teams of four. The CTF event will be led by ENUSEC Vice President and Cyber Security challenge champion, Charlie Hosier.

Since its inception, Le Tour Du Hack has been attended by a broad mixture of cybersecurity students from across Scotland’s central belt. However, the event also attracts members from the wider cybersecurity student community, with attendees from Imperial College London taking part last year.

Although the event is organised by students, the event is not primarily aimed at students. The two-day event is open to “anyone and everyone who is interested in learning, socialising and competing in a friendly cybersecurity environment,” ENUSEC said.
