“Rising leaders are not only advocating for AI—they’re deploying this technology in meaningful ways, from improving communication with colleagues to freeing up time for strategic work,” said Yulie Kwon Kim, VP of product, Google Workspace.

New research from Google Workspace has found that the majority of Gen Z employees use genAI tools in their jobs.

According to a survey of over 1,000 workers aged 22-39 conducted by the Harris Poll, 93% of those identifying as Gen Z and 79% who identify as millennials use two or more AI tools on a weekly basis, with almost all (98%) of those surveyed anticipating that AI will impact their industry or workplace within the next five years.

Over 50% of the AI users surveyed said that they regularly share their experiences and insights with colleagues, and 75% have suggested genAI tools to their peers.

The survey also found that employees are using AI to supercharge their productivity and enhance communication to solve common challenges, with 70% using AI for tasks like drafting email responses, writing emails from scratch, or helping to overcome language barriers.

Half of respondents said that by automating routine tasks, AI has the potential to free up time for them to focus on more strategic work.

AI is becoming the go-to tool for those needing a confidence boost too, with 88% admitting to turning to AI to overcome ‘task paralysis’ when they feel overwhelmed.

A similar number (87%) said that AI makes them more comfortable composing lengthy emails on their phone, while 90% feel more confident joining meetings on-the-go if they know AI is taking meeting notes for them.

Google’s data shows that AI can also help scale business-critical soft skills, such as the ability to collaborate with others, communicate effectively, or lead a team.

Almost half (47%) said that AI can help enhance communication to improve problem solving and facilitate better relationships, while 86% believe that AI can help leaders become better managers, and 79% are interested in using AI to become a better manager.
