Glasgow-headquartered medtech Novosound has announced the appointment of renowned medical technology executive Gary Beale as executive vice chairman.

In this role, Beale will lead the company’s medical business as novosound moves towards FDA clearance for its cuff less, continuous, and calibration-free blood pressure monitoring device, which is powered by its proprietary ultrasound platform.

Beale was the CEO and founder of Emblation, a global medical technology company, and brings a wealth of experience from senior leadership roles at Microsulis (now part of AngioDynamics) and Boston Scientific, one of the world’s leading healthcare companies. Over the past two decades, he has built a track record of scaling medtech businesses and securing significant international partnerships.

Novosound’s ultrasound sensor enables real time, calibration-free, continuous blood pressure monitoring by directly measuring arterial distention. Unlike traditional cuff-based devices, novosound’s sensor technology has the capability to integrate seamlessly into wearable devices, opening up pathways for partnerships with leading smartwatch, fitness tracker, and medical device manufacturers.

Earlier this year, novosound launched a Special Interest Group (SIG) in collaboration with Technology Scotland and the University of Glasgow. The Special Interest Group aims to establish Scotland as a global hub in the rapidly growing wearable technology sector, projected to reach £150 billion globally.
