NVIDIA is investing up to $100 billion in OpenAI as the two tech giants embark on a landmark AI partnership.

The deal will see 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems deployed for OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure to train and run its models.

The first gigawatt of NVIDIA systems will be deployed in the second half of 2026 on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform.

The partnership will see a formal alliance between the two AI stalwarts – NVIDIA has cornered the AI chip market, while OpenAI continues to dominate the foundation model and chatbot sectors of AI.

The deal will also provide OpenAI the access and finances it needs to buy advanced chips that will be key in asserting its dominance in the AI race.

It has also been reported that NVIDIA will buy non-voting shares in OpenAI later in the year.

“NVIDIA and OpenAI have pushed each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward—deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.”

NVIDIA and OpenAI will work as preferred strategic compute and networking partner for its AI factory growth plans. The firms will work together to co-optimise their roadmaps for OpenAI’s model and infrastructure software and NVIDIA’s hardware and software.
