Edinburgh Airport suspended all flights earlier this morning (5 December) due to an IT issue affecting air traffic control, according to a message issued on social media.
Describing the IT problem as a ‘localised’ issue affecting its air traffic control provider, the airport said that the problem has now been resolved, but earlier cautioned that those flying should contact their airlines for more information.
In an update, the airport said: “Flights have now resumed following the IT issue with our air traffic provider. We thank passengers for their patience and understanding.” Though the issue has been resolved, there has been an inevitable knock-on effect, with many flights now facing delays.

Though not providing any details as to what sparked the incident, the airport said that it would provide updates when possible, though several passengers on grounded flights from the likes of EasyJet and Ryanair had already taken to X to voice their frustrations.
As one of Scotland’s busiest airports, Edinburgh claims to have served almost 16 million passengers last year, flying to more than 151 destinations on 222 routes, accounting for 120,000 aircraft movements in 2024.
