Nvidia, Microsoft and Amazon are reportedly in discussions to invest up to $60 billion in OpenAI as part of a major new funding round, The Information reports. If true and the deal goes through, it will constitute one of the largest private funding rounds in history.
Existing backer Nvidia is said to be considering an investment of up to $30 billion, while Microsoft, also a longstanding supporter, is reportedly looking to commit less than $10 billion. Amazon, which would be a new investor in OpenAI, could invest significantly more than $10 billion, potentially exceeding US$20 billion, according to The Information.
The fundraising round could help address investor concerns about OpenAI’s cash burn while sustaining ongoing investment in the company as it develops technology with the potential to transform multiple industries and economies – with the company already taking measures to address cash flow by trialling ads for some users in the US.

OpenAI is reportedly close to receiving term sheets, or investment commitments, from the three companies, The Information reports. Amazon’s potential investment may also depend on separate negotiations, including the expansion of OpenAI’s cloud server rental deal and a commercial agreement for OpenAI products, such as enterprise ChatGPT subscriptions.
The investment talks come as OpenAI faces rising costs to train and run its AI models amid increasing competition from Alphabet’s Google – with Gemini increasing its market share significantly in 2025.
