“We’re looking for bold ideas grounded in real needs, with the potential to be tested and learned from quickly,” said Aleks Tomczyk, chief executive of FinTech Scotland.

FinTech Scotland has opened its latest Finance and Health Lab Innovation Open Call, inviting fintechs and innovators to develop solutions that address real-life challenges at the intersection of financial wellbeing, health and later life.

Bringing together financial services organisations, fintechs, academics, and the public sector, the Finance and Health Lab investigates how financial wellbeing and health shape people’s experiences in later life.

As people grow older, changes in health, income, and care needs increasingly shape their well-being, leading to complex and pressing later-life financial health challenges.

The open call is designed to move solutions for these problems beyond general discussion, creating space for evidence-led innovation, collaboration and practical experimentation that can inform future services, models and policy.

Working with the Finance and Health Lab, applicants are invited to propose their ideas aligned with priority challenge areas focused on improving outcomes in later life.

The areas highlighted as most in need of innovation include predictive financial‑vulnerability insights, using health, behavioural and financial data to generate early‑warning systems, and “healthy ageing simulation”, which focuses on creating personalised planning tools that model the financial impact of health events in later life.

FinTech Scotland is also looking for ideas that can build confidence in financial decision‑making, improve the accessibility of digital financial services for older people, and support systems to help them navigate the fragmented landscape of health services, social care, pensions, insurance and benefits as their needs change.

Innovators selected through the open call will have the opportunity to engage with participating industry partners, including Sword Group, Sopra Steria, and Aegon – Mylo.
