Fujitsu have announced a voluntary redundancy programme which will result in 270 UK job losses.

The organisation is reported to have struggled following backlash over their involvement in the Horizon technology scandal which resulted in wrongful convictions of Post Office employees. The company is facing millions in claims for damages from hundreds of sub-postmasters.

The repercussions have also resulted in the loss of a number of government contracts, further aggravating the organisation’s financial position. Computer Weekly reported that loss of existing business and potential business bids were putting pressure on the business.

Despite the challenges, Fujitsu appeared to be in a strong position, with a record net profit of approx. £1.24 billion at the end of 2025, and forecasting strong growth for 2026.

The company has indicated that compulsory redundancies may need to be enforced should the voluntary programme not reap the required outcomes.

Across the organisation 425 roles are set to be cut, with 270 of them based in the UK. It has not been confirmed which functions will be effected.

The company had similar cuts in 2025, at the time commenting: “As all large organisations do, we regularly review internal skills and resourcing to ensure we can meet market demands while remaining competitive.”

The organisation has pointed towards a strategic transformation as the cause of redundancies.

UK chief Anwen Owen said: “I recognise that this may be unsettling. We are taking this step at the beginning of our transformation journey so that we can continue to invest in the areas of our business that our customers need most, to build a simpler, more reliant company, and to be best placed for long-term strength.”
