The Japan-based company is said to have injected another £80 million into the UK business to strengthen the balance sheet.

This contribution adds to a growing bill which has emerged since the Post Office scandal that saw hundreds of sub-postmasters wrongly prosecuted due to a major fault in the Post Office’s IT system.

Fujitsu have rejected allegations that the investment is a result of the Post Office scandal, with a spokesperson commenting: “The £80m recapitalisation demonstrates Fujitsu Group’s long-term commitment to the UK and will strengthen the balance sheet. It follows similar payments in 2024 and 2025. This is part of a regular corporate review process covering all legal entities in the Fujitsu group. It is unrelated to our ongoing conversations with government regarding contribution to compensation.”

This recent contribution brings injections into the UK business to a total of £360 million since 2024.

The Post Office scandal is said to have caused both corporations and taxpayers billions of pounds – with legal fees, compensation and police investigations all contributing. Over 1,000 sub-postmasters were wrongly accused of financial fraud as a result of errors made by Fujitsu’s Horizon system.

Insiders at Fujitsu have suggested the business has struggled with contract losses, reputational damage, legal action and redundancies over the last few years.

Last week Fujitsu announced layoffs affecting 10% of its UK workforce.

Despite stating they have a “moral obligation” to contribute to compensation for sub-postmaster victims, it has not yet been disclosed what Fujitsu’s contribution will be – or how this will affect the business’s future in the UK.
