Scottish Enterprise Grant Boosts Smart Energy Firm Cirrus Logic

Cirrus Logic, a high-performance, low-power audio and mixed-signal semiconductor solutions firm, has received a research and development grant from Scottish Enterprise to support the development of next-generation smart energy technology and expand advanced engineering activities in Scotland.

The funding supports development of a new metrology analogue front-end (AFE) platform that delivers high-accuracy energy measurement and metrology calculations for smart power metering applications.

Designed for use in residential, commercial, and industrial energy metering, the core IP supports applications such as EV charging, data centre DC metrology, energy storage, and grid monitoring. More broadly, it addresses growing demand for grid modernisation, energy management, and decarbonisation technologies.

UK Gov Invests £62M in Homegrown Space Technologies

British businesses, universities and researchers will receive access to more than £62 million in government funding to develop homegrown space technologies.

The funding – announced by Space Minister Liz Lloyd – will support new satellite communications systems and space innovation projects, helping turn early-stage ideas into commercial products, strengthen the UK’s ability to monitor and protect assets in orbit, and build a more resilient domestic space sector.

The funding aims to help UK innovators build the satellite communications, space security and commercial technologies that strengthen Britain’s competitiveness, resilience and security.

UK Sovereign AI Fund & Bezos Backs CuspAI in £335M Series B Funding

Cambridge-based AI firm CuspAI has raised £335 million in funding in Series B round, with investment from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and the UK’s sovereign AI fund.

The business, only two-years-old, is now valued at $2.6bn and aims to be the “search engine for rare materials.”

The funding round was led by Kleiner Perkins and NEA, supported by Glade Brook Capital Partners, Lux Capital, AMD Ventures, Tru Arrow Partners, StepStone, Britain’s Sovereign AI Venture Fund, the Invest-NL and John Doerr.

The funding announcement aligns with CuspAI’s launch of the AI Materials Foundry, bringing together a global network of data, labs, compute and scientific expertise for the design of new materials, orchestrated by a single agentic platform.

Peak Visibility Gain £1M Investment

A Glasgow-based marketing agency that specialises in search engine optimisation is aiming to become a world leader in its field thanks to a £1 million investment in the business.

As part of the seven-figure cash injection, which comes from retained profits, A1 SEO has rebranded as Peak Visibility and is looking to build on its success from its city centre headquarters.

Since originally established by Graham Grieve in 2014 as GMS Digital – it evolved into A1 SEO in 2019 – the business has been passionate about its campaigns that deliver a long-lasting return on investment for clients, who have included well-known brands such as Barrhead Travel, retailer Affordable Golf and Scottish legal firm Harper Macleod.

Databarracks Acquires Acumen Business Services

Databarracks has acquired the assets of Acumen Business Services Ltd. The transaction follows Databarracks’ acquisition of PlanB Consulting and continues the company’s investment in its Business Resilience Managed Services and unified approach to business and technology resilience.

Acumen was founded by Andy Osborne, who has spent more than 20 years delivering award-winning business continuity consulting – the firm counts more than 100 clients across financial services, healthcare and manufacturing.
