Paradise Island Adventure Golf in Livingston has launched a new Augmented Reality (AR) app that provides golfers with the opportunity to play in a variety of far-flung locations, such as Easter Island, and receive tips from AR characters.

A first for adventure golf, the AR app adds exciting aspects to the gameplay such as hazard effects in the form of digital lava pits, snakes and scorpions.

Triggers have been added to the venue’s 36 holes, which can be scanned using a smartphone by players to launch the AR accoutrements.

It features four digital AR characters that players can enlist to help distract their opponents. Players can choose from Cheeky Monkey, Holey Moley, Poopy Parrot, and Funky Frog. Each character has their own method of distraction from hurling bananas to disco dancing.

The AR elements have been designed so that they can easily be photographed or filmed and then shared on social media. It also features a selfie-face filter, which transforms the user into a cheeky chimp.

“As well as all the fun animal and special effect features, the app includes an interactive scorecard, a winner’s podium which transports players through an active volcano, a booking function and a loyalty card.

“It should really appeal to the young digital-savvy audience and we can’t wait to see everyone enjoying this groundbreaking new way of playing the game.”

Designed by Glasgow-based Fore Digital, the app is free to download on Apple and Android.
