Action for Children, the charity behind the Byte Night Scotland sleep out, is organising a 24 hack on October 28th/29th, to get Scotland’s tech community actively working on the problems faced by homeless young people.

The hack is open to individuals or teams and is calling for people at all skill levels to get involved, give up some time and try to find solutions to the growing problem of homeless young people.

The charity would like to run hacks in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, so is asking people to register online.

Anyone interested in taking part can visit the Hack for the Homeless website and indicate whether they’d be interested in Edinburgh or Glasgow, as well as the number of people taking part. Applications are open to individuals or teams.

Byte Night board member, Ray Bugg, said: “Over the last several years, Scotland’s digital technology community has done a fantastic job raising money for homeless young people, through the Byte Night sleep out.

“Now however, there’s a chance to do even more and try to find practical and achievable ways to alleviate the situation facing thousands of young people, through innovative and disruptive uses of technology and digital media.

“Scotland has some of the most technically capable and creative designers, developers and disruptors in the world. We’d like as many of them as possible to join us for the Hack for the Homeless – and for Byte Night – to make a real difference to the lives of young people who find themselves in incredibly difficult situations.”

The Hack for the Homeless event starts at 12pm on October 28th and runs until 12pm on October the 29th.
