Data Protection 2022
Taking place on March 24th at Dynamic Earth, DIGIT’s Data Protection Summit 2022 will share insights on security architecture, privacy, international data sharing and consent.

In two weeks’ time Edinburgh will host the fifth national Data Protection Summit on Thursday 24th of March. As Scotland’s largest annual conference for data protection, privacy and technology professionals, the event will bring practitioners from across the country together for knowledge exchange, discussion and networking.

The event is free to attend for all personnel working in relevant data protection, security, IT and management roles at an end-user organisation.

When GDPR came into force in 2018 it signalled a seismic shift for data protection. Four years on from implementation and the landscape continues to evolve, with the UK Government now working to reform data legislation after exiting the EU.

The recent consultation, launched in September, sets out 70+ new proposals with an aim to reduce barriers to innovation and data flow while improving public services. But the proposals have faced criticism for deviating from the European consensus and raised concerns of an erosion in UK data protection standards

The 2022 Summit will contextualise the latest developments within the data protection field, with insight from frontline practitioners reflecting on key trends, challenges and best practice. The event will also provide an update from the ICO, looking at regulatory priorities; the Age Appropriate Design Code and anonymisation.

2022 speakers include:

  • Lesley Holmes, DPO, MHR
  • Lee Pope, Senior Policy Advisor: National Data Strategy, DCMS
  • Cedric Krummes, Information Governance Officer, HS2
  • Douglas Rintoul, IT Partner, Johnston Carmichael
  • John Mitchison, Director of Policy & Compliance, DMA
  • Laura Irvine, Partner & Head of Regulatory Law, Davidson Chalmers
  • Ken Macdonald, Head of ICO Regions, ICO
  • Jenny Brotchie, Regional Manager, ICO
  • Paul Comerford, Principal Policy Advisor, ICO
  • Michael Murray, Head of Regulatory Strategy, ICO
  • Chris Paterson, Privacy Solutions Engineer, OneTrust

Commenting on the event, DIGIT Director Ray Bugg said: “We have come through two years of disruptions, challenges and transformation. The mass shift to remote working, the accelerated adoption of cloud technology, and legislative movement after Brexit and the Schrems II decision all mean that organisations need to rethink how their data is stored and protected.

“Data Protection 2022 will bring context to the changing landscape and bring practitioners together to share their insight, learn from their peers and discuss how we can keep moving privacy and data protection forward in our organisations.”
