Web security company Cloudflare has suffered a major outage, causing disruption to a variety of services, including Discord, Shopify, Fitbit and Grindr.

Cloudflare said that a critical P0 incident had been declared at around 06:34 GMT, which was disrupting connectivity in its network.

“Customers attempting to reach Cloudflare sites in impacted regions will observe 500 errors. The incident impacts all data plane services in our network,” the company noted.

Cloudflare is a major provider of content delivery and web security services. One of its main offerings is protecting its clients against DDoS attacks. Its services are used by a wide swath of the internet.

As such, there were a raft of services reporting disruptions. These include DoorDash, Peleton, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, popular videogame League of Legends, Feedly, NordVPN, and Buffer, among many others.

In addition, users of its 1.1.1.1 DNS service, which helps route internet traffic, complained that they were unable to access websites.

While the outage was not worldwide, the company said it had affected “broad regions”.

In a Hacker News thread, Cloudflare CTO attributed it to a “Problem with our backbone. We know what. Rollbacks etc. happening.”

By 6:57 GMT, the company said that it had identified the bug and was implementing a solution.

According to Cloudflare, a fix was implemented at 07:20 GMT, with the company monitoring the results. It is now reporting that the outage has been resolved.

The outages were confirmed by third party outage service Downdetector.

This isn’t the first outage that Cloudflare has suffered recently. Services using it were affected in India, Indonesia and Eastern Europe on June 15th, including Discord, Shopify, Canva, and GitLab.

The issue was resolved within two hours. The company attributed it to a new software release consuming more resources.
