Nine startups have been selected for extended pitches at this year’s EIE22 online tech investor conference on Thursday 6th October.

Startups selected are CyberShell, Continulus, FC Labs, InFix, Lenz Labs, Microplate Dx, Pogo Studio, SMASH, and Hoolr.

The companies are seeking between £500,000 and £3 million in investment. The remaining 28 cohort companies at this year’s EIE will be making shorter pitches on the day.

Each startup is providing a unique product to pitch to investors:

• CyberShell – Incorporating cyber-resilience at the start of software development.
• Continulus – A wearable that helps doctors and nurses access knowledge via video tech.
• FC Labs – Wearable tech that targets high-risk work environments.
• InFix – A cloud technology platform targets improvements in NHS theatre efficiency.
• Lenz Labs – Making components and AI-enabled tech for rail operations.
• Microplate Dx – Technology for rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing.
• Pogo Studio – A platform aiding the healthcare sector to build presentations for patients.
• SMASH – Tech to connect content creators and decision-makers in media.
• Hoolr – Helps organisations manage, scale and understand their coaching cultures.

Danny Helson, Head of Programme and Investor Relations at EIE, said: “Our extended pitch companies this year cover technologies like artificial intelligence and data science, and come from sectors ranging from healthcare, to climate, fintech, and creative design.

“It was hard to pick from such a strong bunch, as we have massively talented founders and companies across the board from Scotland, around the UK and beyond, but we think the presentations on show will put the best foot forward for these exciting young technology companies.”

As well as global investor attendees, EIE22 will also have an investor panel in place to quiz the startups pitching following their presentations. The investor panel members are set to be announced shortly.

Last month, the EIE team revealed that keynote speakers featuring at the event include Scotland’s Chief Entrepreneur Mark Logan, Women in Enterprise Review Chair Ana Stewart, and newly appointed techUK President Sheila Flavell CBE.

In June, the EIE Scottish Startup Survey 2022 was launched, asking Scottish startup and scaleup founders and CEOs about a range of themes including investor engagement, growth strategy, economic outlook, Scottish ecosystem support, hiring plans, returning to the office, and new ways of working post-pandemic. The findings are set to be released in the run-up to EIE22 in October.

Next week, the EIE22 Countdown event takes place at RBS Gogarburn, when the cohort companies will hear from leading business figures like former Wood Group CEO and Scottish Enterprise chairman Bob Keiller.

The EIE Investor Readiness Programme delivered by the University of Edinburgh’s Bayes Centre has helped over 540 companies raise more than £1.1 billion since 2008.
