“Christmas time,” Cliff Richard, sang, “mistletoe and wine.” Sadly we don’t have any mistletoe in the DIGIT office, but there’s quite a lot of wine and thousands of blank floppy disks (if you’ve been to one of our events you’ll understand…)
We would like to raise a convivial glass and thank each and every one of you for visiting the site, reading the stories, sharing the links and generally making DIGIT’s first year far better than we could ever have hoped.
From our launch in February 2017, the site has grown enormously, hitting 30,000 views in September, 40,000 in October and 50,000 in November. Weirdly, our traffic for December has also been incredibly high, thanks to a couple of stories which have truly gone global…
On the events side of the business we’ve had some fantastic success in areas including fintech, GDPR, big data and IoT. We have even bigger plans for DIGIT events in 2018, which we’ll tell you all about after the new year.
The help and support we’ve received from everyone has been outstanding. From the companies and contributors who have given us news, editorial and opinion, through to the agencies and organisations which have helped to spread the word about DIGIT, we’ve been delighted by the strong sense of community and collaboration within the digital technology sector.
The success of the site has shown just how much appetite there is for news and updates about Scotland’s tech sector. We plan to build on that in the coming year and make sure we cover and communicate all of the news and updates from the whole of Scotland. Not just the major cities, but the highlands, the islands and the borders. If you’re doing something with digital technology in Scotland – we want to know all about it.
We’re making a few changes to the editorial team in 2018. We’ll introduce our new staff writer as we wave goodbye to our amazing interns, who have been with the site since the beginning. Andrew, Chloe – we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you so much (and if you’re looking for talented journalists, you should get in touch).
We have big plans for 2018. We think we can make it even better than 2017 – and that’s been pretty good all round.
Until then, have a very Merry Christmas – and may the force be with you!
Team DIGIT
