Scottish health tech startup Infix Support has secured its first contact with the NHS Lothian for their cloud-based software. 

Infix: Schedule improves the efficiency of surgical operating theatres and tackles patient waiting list backlogs. The tech also includes a virtual portal, infix: Preop, to track the patient pathway. 

The company’s contract with NHS Lothian follows their clinical trial at NHS Lanarkshire. 

Infix was found to increase operating theatre utilisation by 27%, and an independent review by the University of Stirling found that Infix: Schedule improved theatre efficiency by up to 37%. 

With long wait times for patients and major staff shortages in the NHS, the tech hopes to ease some of the challenges the health sector currently faces. 

NHS Lothian outpatient waiting times can be up to 103 weeks on average. For general surgery, wait times can range between 4 and 82 weeks depending on the type of surgery and the severity of the issue.

The pandemic and staff shortages have exacerbated the strain on the NHS, and cutting down wait times is critical.

Calum Campbell, Chief Executive Officer at NHS Lothian, said: “We know that waiting longer for surgery can cause distress and deteriorating health for patients. That’s why we are keen to embrace innovation that helps reduce waiting times by optimising the efficient use of our theatres.

The contract also follows a seven figure external investment for Infix from Uk and International business leaders and a few new appointments. 

Former Archangels CEO, John Waddell, was appointed as Infix’s Chair earlier in the year. Angela Brown joined as CFO, and Forrit CEO Peter Proud is also on the company’s board.
