The average cost of a hacked streaming service on the dark web currently costs around £9, according to Atlas VPN.

Rising in popularity and variety, streaming services have become a prime target of cybercriminals.

Typically, profiles include names, dates of births, billing addresses, and often payment information. Their use on multiple devices increases security risks, making them all the more appealing to hackers.

That, with the rising cost, the diversification of different sites, and with Netflix’s recent crack down on shared accounts, streaming services are becoming a hot item on the dark web.

Music streaming services account for both the high and low end of the spectrum, with AppleMusic accounts costing £12, but a SoundCloud accountgoing for as little as £5.

Spotify, on the other hand, would cost you roughly the same as a Netflix account, offered for £10 each.

Hulu and Twitch accounts run for about £9 each, followed by HBO Max at £8 and Amazon Prime Video for £7.

Disney+ is the most expensive video streaming service, costing £12 per account on the Dark Web.

Fraudsters typically gain access to these accounts by using login credintials obtained from data breaches.

People tend to use the same email and password combinations for multiple account, which makes it much easier for hackers to gain access to thousands of other accounts from one data breach.

Phishing scams are also a popular tool for hackers to gain account information.

Steps to take if your account has been hacked include

• Changing your password: Changing your password to something unique will make it less likely to get hacked. If you use the same password for other accounts, those should be changes as well
• Log out all users: Log out every users from all devices, so after you change your password, the hacker cannot access the account.
• Contact support: If you cannot access your account or your log in details have been changes you should contact support to see if they can gain access to your account. If they cannot get any further, then you should request the account be deleted.
• Block your payment cards: If your payment cards are connected to your account, you should block them immediately to prevent fraudsters from taking your money.
