GDPR is a new European data protection law that will come into force in all EU member states (including the UK) on 25 May 2018. It will introduce the most radical shake-up of data protection law in over 20 years and seeks to provide a stronger and more coherent, harmonised data protection framework, backed up with tougher enforcement powers. GDPR has direct effect in member states and will replace the current Data Protection Act 1998. Despite Brexit, the UK Government has confirmed that GDPR will come into force in the UK as planned.
