CGI is opening its doors to Scottish Borders residents of all ages who are looking to forge a new career in the technology sector.

The company is putting on a special recruitment event in Tweedbank, where those who attend will learn all about CGI’s range of job opportunities. These jobs will involve not only working on key Scottish Borders Council projects to create the UK’s first smart rural region, but also on other solutions in and around Scotland and the UK.

CGI and Scottish Borders Council began their relationship in 2016, when the global IT and business consulting services company won a contract, worth £92.5m over an initial 13-year term, to become the local authority’s primary provider of end-to-end managed IT services.

The recruitment event will be held at CGI’s Tweedbank office on Wednesday February 7, as it looks to attract young people educated in Scottish Border schools and learning new tech and business skills thanks to Inspire Learning, and also other citizens looking for a variety of careers and with the abilities to succeed in the tech sector.

Among the roles that CGI will showcase at the event are software developers, application support analysts, testers, business analysts, architects – both technical and solution, technical IT analysts and project managers.

The event is being held jointly with Scottish Borders Council, which is looking to recruit workers for a number of key roles, from adult social care to catering, occupational therapy, social work and teaching.

People can drop in between 12pm and 8pm to Inspire Learning, the council’s centre of excellence which provides a digital training space where equal access to technology is available to young people, families, businesses and organisations. There they will have the chance to speak to representatives and managers from Scottish Borders Council to find out more about what it is like to work for the council and the career path that they can follow.

A key part of this relationship is continuing to develop a local workforce through our metro model of working.

“These technically skilled workers will not only help develop the cutting-edge digital solutions needed for Borders to become a smart rural region, but also work across a whole host of exciting projects and contracts around Scotland and the UK.

“Our job opportunities are open to all, but we are especially keen to hear from the cohort of Borders students who have been educated through the Inspire Learning programme. Inspire Learning focuses not only on the core curriculum but also on digital innovation, digital literacy, improving skills through technological advance, and allowing creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation to thrive.
