Thanks to new NGSC scanners, passengers departing from Aberdeen International Airport will no longer be required to remove laptops or liquids from their carry-on bags. 

The scanners mark a significant upgrade in airport security tech, allowing passengers to keep laptops and liquids containing up to two litres, in their carry-on luggage, eliminating the previous 100ml restrictions.

Aberdeen International Airport proactively implemented the new NGSC scanners well ahead of the UK Government’s deadline for such installations. The original deadline for these changes was June 1st, however the government has granted several extensions to airports unable to meet the deadline. 

One of which is Edinburgh airport, who said on social media: “Although work is currently ongoing to install the new scanners and a number will be in place in the coming weeks and months, passengers should continue to follow the 100ml rules and remove large electricals from their bags until we announce otherwise.”

According to the government, the maximum time for an extension for the release of this new technology is 12 months, meaning that we could expect to see these changes more widely across the country in the coming months. 

William Wallace, security manager at Aberdeen International Airport, expressed his satisfaction with the timely deployment of the advanced security measures in Aberdeen.

“We are well ahead of the deadline set by the Government thanks to all the hard work from our staff and contractors,” he said. 

“This is one of the biggest changes in airport security so we would ask passengers to be prepared for this new process and to have patience as we enter the biggest change in aviation security in nearly two decades.”

While Aberdeen International Airport has embraced the NGSC technology, passengers are reminded that security procedures may vary at other airports across the UK. Travellers are advised to familiarise themselves with the specific security protocols at both their departure airport and any other airports they may transit through to ensure a smooth travel experience.
