Scottish and UK investment banks strengthen ties with a Memorandum of Understanding to boost Scotland’s economic growth.

In an effort to boost Scotland’s economic landscape, the Scottish National Investment Bank (SNIB) and the UK Infrastructure Bank (UKIB) have solidified their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This agreement underscores their mutual commitment to fostering increased private investment within Scotland while advancing their individual mandates.

Both institutions, although government-owned, function autonomously to deploy public funds in a commercially viable manner, aiming to generate broader societal, environmental, and economic benefits.

The MOU establishes a framework for the exchange of sector insights, impact assessments, and developmental opportunities, facilitating cooperation on projects that align with their respective goals.

While SNIB and UKIB will continue to support separate initiatives according to their mandates, the MOU paves the way for discussions on potential co-financing opportunities.

“We’re delighted to strengthen our working relationship with UKIB and deliver more for the people of Scotland. We both recognise that cooperation and collaboration can leverage our investment impact, and we are excited to build on the good work we have already done together,” said SNIB CEO Al Denholm.

Echoing this sentiment, UKIB CEO John Flint said: “We look forward to working more closely with the Scottish National Investment Bank and drawing on their insight into the local market to accelerate investment opportunities in Scotland.”

SNIB focuses on investing in Scottish businesses, projects, and communities to yield long-term environmental, social, and financial gains for the nation, with its investments ranging from £1 million to £50 million.

Meanwhile, UKIB, armed with £22 billion, targets infrastructure projects aimed at combating climate change and driving regional and local economic growth across the UK.

Having previously collaborated on advancing the offshore wind industry, the MOU between SNIB and UKIB is expected to unlock further opportunities and attract private investment into Scotland.
