Scotland’s tech industry is entering a transformative phase, according to Eden Scott’s Tech Salary Guide 2025/26, which highlights increasing demand for AI talent, evolving hiring strategies, and a record-breaking influx of venture capital.
The guide reveals that AI-focused roles now command salaries up to 58% higher than comparable positions, with employers increasingly adopting skills-first hiring strategies that prioritise hands-on experience over formal qualifications.
Key roles in demand include AI Engineers, Prompt Engineers, Cloud Architects, and Cybersecurity Analysts.
This talent demand is matched by a surge in investment – venture capital investment in Scotland tripled in Q3 2024, reaching £116.1 million, a 220% increase from the previous quarter.
Tech was a huge winner in this regard, with software and AI startups accounting for nearly a third of all VC deals. Further, new tech incorporations in Scotland rose 26% year-on-year, with 471 new companies launched in Q3 alone.

Scotland’s regional tech hubs are also thriving. Edinburgh and Glasgow continue to lead in fintech, health tech, and public digital services, while Aberdeen is evolving beyond its oil and gas roots to become a centre for energy tech and industrial software innovation.
Peter Dunn, Associate Director of Tech & Digital Recruitment at Eden Scott, said: “Scotland’s tech sector is evolving rapidly. The combination of rising salaries, flexible hiring strategies, and record investment is creating a dynamic environment for growth. Organisations must adopt insight-led approaches to attract and retain top talent.”
