Anthropic is reportedly in early talks with investors to raise at least $30 billion in fresh financing at a valuation of more than $900bn, in what could become the AI startup’s largest funding round to date.
As first reported by Bloomberg, the Claude maker, founded in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI employees, has been in discussions with investors and existing backers about the potential raise. The deal has not been finalised and no term sheet has been signed.
If completed at that valuation, the round would serve as a huge milestone for Anthropic, which was valued at $380bn as of February and has been racing to keep pace with OpenAI since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022. OpenAI was most recently valued at $852bn after completing a major funding round in March.
The fundraising discussions come amid growing demand for Anthropic’s AI products, particularly its Claude family of models. The company released Claude Opus 4.7 earlier this month, describing it as its best generally available offering.
However, Anthropic has also attracted significant attention from the financial and policy sectors through Claude Mythos Preview, a model with advanced cybersecurity capabilities that is currently available only to a select group of companies.
The development of Mythos is also understood to be part of the reason Anthropic is seeking fresh capital. The company requires significant computing capacity to run and scale its models, particularly as demand grows across enterprise use cases including coding and cybersecurity.
Compute infrastructure has become a central focus for the company. Earlier this month, Anthropic struck a major deal with Amazon centred on AI infrastructure. Amazon agreed to invest up to $25bn in the company, while Anthropic secured up to five gigawatts of compute capacity for training and deploying its Claude models.

Anthropic has also secured five gigawatts of computing capacity through an agreement with Google and Broadcom, with the capacity expected to begin coming online next year. Google has said it plans to invest up to $40bn in Anthropic.
The latest talks follow two major financing commitments from Big Tech firms. Google committed to invest $10bn in Anthropic at a $350bn valuation, the same valuation as the company’s $30bn funding round in February, with plans to invest up to a further $30bn if certain performance targets are met. Amazon is also investing $5bn at a $350bn valuation, with plans to inject $20bn more over time.
The company’s momentum has accelerated over the past year, supported by the release of Claude Code, its AI coding assistant. Anthropic said earlier this month that it had reached $30bn in annualised revenue, after generating roughly $10bn in revenue last year.
