Why You Should Update Your iPhone NOW
There’s a new piece of malware in town, BROADPWN, which can access your device via the WiFi signal and execute code.
In terms of threat levels, the US National Institute for Standards & Technology (NIST) has given BROADPWN a CRITICAL threat rating of 9.8 out of 10.
Apple has now released an update to iOS (10.3.3) which fixes the vulnerability. It’s available for devices back to the iPhone 5, 4th generation iPads, and 6th generation iPod Touch.
Go to the settings menu and pick General -> Software Update and then pick update 10.3.3
The exploit targets devices which contain WiFi chipsets manufactured by Broadcom. Unfortunately this means a large number of the most popular devices are open to the attack.
Google issued a similar update earlier this month for the same vulnerability in Android devices.
