Commsworld has announced the appointment of industry big-hitter Bruce Strang to its board as Executive Director of Operations.

Before joining the local authority, he was known for his role at outsourcing firm Capita and as Managing Director of Updata, where he was responsible for a team exceeding 500 people.

While at Capita he oversaw the company’s Scottish Wide Area Network (SWAN) framework, resulting in a deal worth an estimated £325 million to deliver public sector telecommunications across the country. Strang’s appointment follows the firm’s recent board expansion, which saw it welcome two new board members, Steve Langmead and John Bennet as Non-Executive Directors.

Aside from new additions to the Commsworld team, the company has recently acquired one of the country’s longest-running IT businesses, ECS (Edinburgh Computer Services) making it a £20m plus revenue business. Earlier in the year, the company secured a lucrative seven-year ICT contract with Glasgow City Council worth £30m.
