Edinburgh-based Clevermed, the health tech company, has been acquired by System C, one of the UK’s providers of hospital-wide software for the NHS.
The acquisition has aims to unlock growth and investment for its flagship product, the parent and baby health system, BadgerNet.
Currently, nearly every baby in a neonatal unit in the UK have their details in Badgernet – by the end of 2023, it’s estimated that 45% of UK pregnancies will be recorded on the product.
Along with clinical access, every day the system supports over 40,000 women and families across the UK who log in for a view of their notes or their baby’s neonatal journey online through the Badger Notes mobile app.
Clevermed created a single joined up pregnancy and newborn record operating between Trusts and Health Boards, first across Scotland and then rolled out in England, allowing clinicians, pregnant people, and families to have a full view of their record, wherever they are.
Jane Stephenson, Clevermed CEO said: “Clevermed was founded because there is a great need for IT systems to be part of the wider NHS journey in improving care for newborns, women and families. Many people who work at Clevermed have had a baby in the neonatal unit or have gone through a tough pregnancy and are personally invested in our mission.
“There is a real passion for what we do at Clevermed. Driven by constant improvement, the people working here want to make sure the product gets better every day.”
Speaking of the acquisition Nick Wilson, CEO of System C said: “The acquisition is a natural fit culturally and technologically. Our values align and our products will work well together enabling us to offer better healthcare outcomes through digital services.”
Clevermed provides electronic maternity and neonatal records for patients to all key stakeholders including clinicians and parents.
It works with Health Boards and Trusts in the UK and has worked closely with the New Zealand government and clinical community for over ten years.
