The findings are part of data analysis done by Atlantic Recruiters, a global recruitment agency, which used their recruitment network to demonstrate the relationship between continuous learning and career advancement.

According to the analysis, 70% of workers are engaging in professional development such as earning certifications or experience in a specific field. While 65% of workers are upskilling which is where an employee improves or upgrades their skills to do a certain job, whereas 45% of workers are reskilling which is where an employee sets out to adapt to a new role within the same company.

The study showed that the most lucrative form of development was upskilling, which saw a 20% average salary increase, followed by reskilling (15%) and professional development (10%). In turn, these skills offer the employees promotions 30% of the time in upskilling, 25% of the time in reskilling, and 20% of the time in professional development.

The industries which show the highest number of employees using these avenues for career advancement were technology for upskilling, healthcare for reskilling, and finance for professional development.

The findings come during increasing vacancies in tech related fields due to a skills shortage. This shows the increasing importance of reskilling, upskilling, or developing your skills in order to fit into some of the may in demand roles across the sector.
