Cloudgine They Came From Space

They Came From Space demonstrates Cloudgine’s pioneering cloud-based games engine, for Virtual Reality and regular PC players.

They Came From Space is a unique new title, announced by Edinburgh-based Cloudgine. The game is a 1950s themed sci-fi destruct-em-up in which player’s must harvest the Earth’s resources while fighting off competing alien invaders.

The game allows players in virtual reality to assume the role of the alien overseer, controlling a giant tripod, who can smash, rip-apart and destroy buildings and cities, while non-VR players become pilots, controlling UFO’s which can suck up livestock, people and pets, as well as battling enemy UFOs.

The game has been created using Cloudgine’s advanced cloud gaming engine. It takes processor intensive aspects of the game, such as the physics and fully-destructible environments away from the user’s PC and instead processes them using cloud-based processing. This allows far more complex and resource intensive calculations to be carried out and enables games to be created which would not be possible on regular desktop-based systems.

Cloudgine was founded in 2013 by Maurizio Sciglio, Marco Anastasi and Dave Jones. Jones is a well-known figure in the games sector having founded DMA Design (creator of Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto among others) and Realtime Worlds (creator of Crackdown and APB).

Cloudgine is now working with fellow Scottish development studio Reagent Games and Sheffield-based Sumo on the highly anticipated Crackdown 3 for the Xbox One S.

No release date has been given for They Came From Space. You can find out more about the game online, or follow progress on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
