Industry leaders road-mapped the future of AI in financial services, hailing data as a ‘vital’ component in the future of the technology at the inaugural Financial Conduct Authority’s AI Sprint.
The event underscored the importance of good and fit for purpose data as the foundation for the effective and responsible use of AI technologies, warning that without robust data, consumer confidence in financial markets risked being significantly undermined.”
During the event, industry leaders, academics, regulators, technologists, and consumer advocates came together to shape the regulatory framework for the safe, ethical and effective adoption of AI in financial services.
The FCA’s newly launched AI Lab hosted the Sprint as part of its commitment to foster collaboration and innovation in FinTech.
Throughout the event, the significance of high-quality, well-governed data was a central theme. Good quality data is essential for AI because it ensures that models are accurate and unbiased, enabling them to make informed decisions and deliver meaningful insights.
As AI applications in financial services grow, participants stressed the need for accurate, good quality data to ensure systems operate effectively while adhering to ethical guidelines.
The event comes at a pivotal moment, following the UK government’s AI Opportunities Plan, which aims to inject £14 billion into AI investment and create 13,250 jobs in the sector.
