Deliveroo, one of the UK’s leading tech unicorns, has today announced plans to expand its Edinburgh-based tech hub with the launch of new flagship headquarters in April 2020.

The expansion is expected to create 70 high-skilled roles in the country’s capital city that will focus on developing cutting-edge software, improving rider and consumer experience, and supporting restaurants.

The announcement follows the company’s acquisition of the software design and development firm, Cultivate, in 2019. The move will cement Deliveroo’s position as a key player in the country’s technology sector and signals the its commitment to continuing to invest in Edinburgh’s tech hub.

The move also recognises the strength of the digital tech sector in Scotland and the wealth of high-skilled Scottish tech talent. It is a positive milestone for the city as it continues to position itself as a leading global tech hub.

It is expected the existing Deliveroo team will move from its current home at Edinburgh’s CodeBase, the UK’s largest technology incubator, to its new HQ by April of this year.

These new highly skilled jobs will:

• Be made up of software engineers, product managers, data scientists and designers;
• Be focused on the continued growth of the payment systems Deliveroo has built as part of its mission to become the financial growth partner of choice for its restaurants and riders;
• Build on existing work to give riders flexible access to their earnings through features such as ‘Cash Out’, where riders can choose to be paid the next day;
• Work on global projects, including new tools and features to help restaurant partners run and grow their business, support their financial planning and budgeting, and build on the benefits Deliveroo offers via its food purchasing products.

Other areas of the company’s technical organisation will eventually be housed in the new Edinburgh hub, which will include teams focused on consumers, riders and restaurants.
