Welcome to the July 2025 edition of the DIGIT Deal Roundup.
Last month saw some major Government-backed funding announcements, with beneficiaries including – but certainly not limited to Glasgow City Region, a major digital inclusion initiative and Strathclyde Uni all on the receiving end of big funding packages.
In the private sector, there was big investment wins in cleantech, sportstech and burgeoning Scottish AI firms.

Edinburgh Startup SWURF Secures Six-Figure Backing
Scottish Government Backs Digital Lifelines with £783K
The Scottish Government’s Digital Lifelines initiative which seeks to reduce the risk of harm and death amongst people who use drugs through digital inclusion and services has secured new funding to continue its work.
Delivered by the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) in collaboration with core partners Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations and Simon Community Scotland, Digital Lifelines Scotland (DLS) has been granted £783,150 for 2025/26 with further programme activities planned for delivery over the following two years, subject to funding confirmation.

Glasgow City Region Gains £30M Innovation Funding
Local leaders in every UK nation are now being backed by at least £30 million each to unlock potentially transformative research and local innovations, the UK Sciences and Technology Secretary announced.
The Glasgow City Region, Cardiff Capital Region, and Belfast/Derry-Londonderry are the latest parts of the UK to be supported by the Local Innovation Partnerships Fund of up to £500 million, committed ahead of last month’s Spending Review, to empower local leaders with skin in the game.
It will help target innovation investment and make the most of communities’ expertise to unleash discoveries that can benefit the UK or create businesses central to economic growth.

£4.8m Boost for Scottish Clean Maritime Projects
Twenty-five Scottish firms including successful companies are set to be awarded a share of £4.8m in funding to support the development of clean maritime fuels and technologies such as ammonia, hydrogen, methanol, solar and electric, awarded from the sixth round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC).
Scotland has received £32.6m funding from the CMDC programme in total which is focused on delivering the technology necessary to decarbonise maritime, with a further £4.8m from the sixth round of CMDC announced today.

Strathclyde Uni Awarded £4.35M to Recruit International Researchers
The University of Strathclyde has been awarded £4.35 million from UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) new Global Talent Fund to recruit leading international researchers.
Strathclyde is one of 12 research organisations to secure a share of the £54 million fund, established to support researchers working in advanced manufacturing, clean energy industries, creative industries, defence, digital and technologies, financial services, life sciences, and professional and business services.
The investment will add to Strathclyde’s proven track record in aligning cutting edge research with industrial priorities, and its ability to attract top global talent into key strategic areas such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and financial services – key elements of the UK’s Industrial Strategy

Gigged.AI Secures £1M Investment to Scale Skills Intellligence Platform
Gigged.AI has secured £1m of additional funding over the last 10 months including new investment from Par Equity and Scottish Enterprise.
The round also has notable participation from high profile angel investors including former Skyscanner CFO Shane Corstorphine, former Skyscanner and Current Health COO Richard Lennox as well as former CEO of UserTesting Andy MacMillan who is now CEO of Alteryx.

GoFibre Wins £105m Deal to Expand Rural Scottish Broadband
Around 63,000 more premises in the North East of Scotland will be able to access gigabit-capable broadband following the award of a contract to deliver the Project Gigabit rollout in the area.
The £105 million contract, funded by the UK Government and procured and delivered by the Scottish Government, has been awarded to GoFibre.
The roll-out will benefit some of the most rural areas in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City, Angus, Dundee, Moray, Highland and parts of Perth and Kinross. It will reach locations including Forfar, Glamis and Brechin, to Cullen, Forres and as far west as Castle Stuart near Inverness Airport.

Scots Cleantech Innovatium Lands £3M For Green Energy Solutions
Scottish cleantech firm Innovatium has won a £3 million investment from the Scottish National Investment Bank alongside Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems (HIES), a cash injection that will help the business develop its green energy solutions for the growing data centre market.
The East Kilbride-based company will use the new funding to speed up the rollout of its PRISMA Advanced Liquid Air Energy Storage system, which the firm claims can store renewable energy in a safer, cheaper, and cleaner way than traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Scottish Sports Tech Startup Scores £1.2M In Funding
Scottish sports tech startup Theo Health has raised £1.2 million and teamed up with Xander Schauffele – two-time major winner, Olympic gold medalist, and the world’s number three ranked golf player – as the company continues the development of a smart clothing platform designed to empower elite athletes and their strength and conditioning coaches with lab-grade data in real time.
Schauffele joins Theo Health as both an investor and one of the founding ‘Alpha Athletes’ in Theo’s testing programme that aims to support athletes around injury prevention and recovery.

Scottish Spacetech Bright Ascension Raises £2.3m
Scottish space tech firm Bright Ascension has secured more than £2.3 million in what is proving to be a busy period of growth, with the company also welcoming the appointment of a new CEO and the launch of a five-year strategic plan.
In a show of continued backing, existing investor Capital for Colleagues has swapped £1 million in short-term loans for convertible notes, deepening its stake in the space-software provider, with a further £600,000 coming from Scottish Enterprise, £600,000 from Harrock Capital Partners, and £150,000 from T J Morris (Investments) Ltd.
Bright Ascension, which counts offices across Edinburgh and Dundee, intends to use the funds to deliver an expanded portfolio of its HELIX suite of satellite software products, strengthen its international sales capabilities and pursue further innovation.
