An Edinburgh mum-of-two has launched an app to help other parents – and grandparents – find child-friendly venues in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.

An Edinburgh mother has launched an app aimed at highlighting child-friendly locations and businesses throughout the city.

The Dribble app will allow users to view locations around the city, including cafes, restaurants and public places that are friendly environments for parents with young children.

Gill Mudie, the app creator, says the inspiration behind launching Dribble came when she was on maternity leave with her first child.

First of Its Kind

Dribble is the first of its kind to be released in Scotland and includes a review section filled with welcoming venues chosen by parents.

Users can access photographs of specific venues as well as detailed venue information and top tips on child-friendly locations in the city.

The app uses GPS to suggest the best spots in proximity to your location, offering personalised results based on the users’ preferences.

Inspiration

Mudie came up with the idea for Dribble while on maternity leave with her first child. While pregnant with her second, Rachel, she created a Facebook community for parents to share reviews and recommendations on where to take their children.

Following strong feedback from members of the community, Mudie explained, she decided to create an all-encompassing app to help parents explore the city without the worry of encountering unwelcoming venues.

“Shortly after the birth of my son,” she said. “I found it was important for my own well-being to get out of the house, but with a baby in tow Edinburgh seemed like a different city.

“Suddenly I found myself asking the same questions every day – could I get the buggy inside, was there a baby change nearby, or where was there a play area?”

Mudie added: “I quickly realised there were lots of other mums and dads – and grandparents – all asking the same thing, so I thought; ‘there must be an app for that’ – but there wasn’t. That was where the idea for Dribble was born.”

Mudie received significant support during the development process from a number of organisations, including Business Gateway, Scottish Enterprise and Gate One Incubator.

Teviot Creative, she added, also helped play a key role in bringing the app to life.

The app is available on Google Play Store or the Apple App Store and is free to download.
