A new finance festival will be held in Edinburgh in September in a hopes of bringing people together in the thousands to promote the city as an ethical finance hub.

Edinburgh Finance Festival will feature a range of events from September 15 to 26 hosted by a variety of partners including Scottish Renewables Onshore Wind Conference, the FinTech Scotland Festival, and the Ethical Finance Global summit.

The festival is being lead by Global Ethical Finance Initiative (GEFI), which also host its summit. GEFI expects more than 2,500 delegates to attend the festival, which will contribute about £1m to the city economy.

“Over the past 10 years Ethical Finance Global has grown from a single summit into a wider programme that tackles some of the biggest challenges facing finance today,” Omar Shaikh, managing director of GEFI said.

“This new expanded festival brings together leaders from across finance, technology and energy to focus on climate change, social justice and economic uncertainty.

“Scotland’s role as a centre for responsible finance continues to strengthen, with this event providing a platform to share practical ideas and solutions.

“The festival highlights how finance can be a force for good by supporting a fairer economy and a greener future.

“It also offers a chance for experts and policymakers to come together and push for change, at a time when global tensions and climate pressures are making the need for ethical finance more urgent than ever.”

One of the flagship events will include the DIGIT FinTech Summit on September 24 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre as part of the FinTech Scotland Festival, which is partnering with GEFI. S

peakers will include executives from top UK banks, regulators, and leading FinTechs, delving into the top trends of the sector from AI to security and compliance. The event will be followed by an awards night that will honour some of the best and brightest in the Scottish FinTech ecosystem.

“Scotland has a rich heritage in financial services stretching back more than 300 years,” Sandy Begbie, chief executive of Scottish Financial Enterprise said.

“It’s fitting that our finance festival is being held in Edinburgh, where much of our financial services history was made.

“The festival offers a great chance for our members to network, take part in events, and connect with colleagues from around the world on a wide range of topics.”

The Ethical Finance summit will feature discussions ranging from tariffs to climate change, with he onshore wind conference highlighting Scotland’s renewables sector and net zero goals.
