Elon Musk has announced in a Tweet that he has found a new cheif executive to lead the social media giant.

While not naming the new boss, Musk said that “she” will start her new role in six weeks, upon which Musk himself will transition into a combined CTO and executive charman role.

According to media reports in the US, NBCUniversal’s head of advertising Linda Yaccarino was in talks to become the new chief executive, with The Wall Street Journal and Variety citing sources close to the matter.

Last year, after Twitter users voted for Musk to step down in an online poll, he said: “No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive.”

Following the announcement, Tesla’s shares rose. Musk has been accused of neglecting his roles with the car company following his acquisition of Twitter.

High-profile hire amid a spate a layoffs and changes

Since his acquisiton of the social media giant for $44bn (£35.2bn) last year, Musk his brought sweeping, and often controversial changes to the tech company.

Back in February, Twitter engaged in its latest round of layoffs, cutting around 10% of its total staff. The layoffs include those who remained loyal to Musk throughout his reign at Twitter, and also included some of those who ran smaller companies which Twitter had acquired earlier.

The most recent round of layoffs come after Musk assured his remaining workforce he had no plans for further cuts in November. The controversial social media mogul had already reduced his workforce from 7,500 to 2,000.

In March, Musk said those efforts had paid off and the platform’s finances were improving.
