Abelon IOT Reference Platform

A new reference platform for the creation of ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) devices has been released by Edinburgh-based Abelon Systems.

The reference platform, which contains a wide variety of communications systems and sensor types, provides IOT developers with a standardised platform to work with, allowing the rapid prototyping and a much faster development of new devices.

The platform supports the new Bluetooth 5 standard as well as Zigbee and wireless radio standards including the low-power, longer-range SIGFOX, GSM, WiFi along with the proprietary ISM band communications. The platform also offers two variants for mobile and static assets. A wide variety of sensor types are supported, including accelerometer, gyrometer and magnetometer, as well as interfaces for temperature, humidity etc. Integrated  flash data storage enables long term data acquisition and recording.

According to research by Gartner, there will be 21 Billion devices connected to the Internet of Things by 2020.

Ian Smith, Abelon’s Managing Director, said, “For our customers the reference framework means reduced risk and much shorter time to market, so it is potentially transformational for their business models.

“The release of the IoT reference platform gives us the ability to create a very broad range of asset tracking, data acquisition and remote monitoring products for a wide variety of markets.”
