Entrepreneurial Scotland has raised more than £80,000 through its second annual Patrons’ Lunch and charity auction to support the next generation of Scotland’s leaders through the charity’s flagship Saltire Scholars Internship Programme.

The event brought together 120 senior business leaders, patrons, and supporters from across Scotland’s entrepreneurial community, uniting current leaders in support of the next generation.

Funds raised will go directly towards the Saltire Scholars Programme – a global initiative that connects students from Scottish universities with fully funded internships at leading organisations across Australia, Canada, Europe, UK and the USA.

Each experience helps young people build international networks, develop leadership skills, and return to Scotland equipped with the confidence and ambition to drive future growth.

Guests heard from Professor Sir Jim McDonald GBE, Emeritus Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde and newly appointed Chair of Scottish Enterprise, who spoke about the intangibles of leadership – the importance of networks, reputation and surrounding oneself with diverse perspectives.

Reflecting on his own career, he reminded attendees that “if leadership ever feels lonely, you’re probably doing it wrong,” urging leaders to “crowd others in” and build teams that challenge and strengthen them.

Andy Lothian, Chief Executive of The Insights Group and newly appointed Chair of Entrepreneurial Scotland, also addressed the room, highlighting how Scotland’s senior leaders can act as catalysts for change by creating opportunity and belief in the next generation.

The live auction, hosted by BBC presenter Natasha Raskin Sharp (Antiques Road Trip and Bargain Hunt), brought the afternoon to life as guests bid generously in support of future leaders – helping to raise a total of £80,225 for the Saltire Scholars Programme.

“The Patrons’ Lunch captures what’s best about Scotland’s business community – leaders coming together to give back, to connect, and to create opportunity for others,” Lothian said.
