Facebook is suffering serious issues this morning amidst complaints of a recurring homepage glitch affecting thousands of users.

According to website tracker Down Detector, users in the UK, Australia and United States have all reported a serious error in the last several hours.

Reports from UK accounts began to emerge just after 6am this morning, with users reporting that their newsfeeds were being ‘spammed’ with posts from celebrity accounts.

Others reported that they could not refresh their newsfeeds and that posts from friends were not showing.

Responding to the Down Detector report, one user commented: “Anyone else just seeing posts to celebrities on their FB news feed? I feel like I’m being spammed!”

In particular, users have reported that posts sent to accounts such as Kim Kardashian, Ed Sheeran and Oasis were appearing in their newsfeeds.

Reports have also began flooding in on Twitter, with users clarifying whether the issue is isolated to their individual newsfeed.

One user said: “Anyone else Facebook feed being weird, randoms posting to celebs? #facebookdown”

Social media consultant and industry analyst, Matt Navarra, confirmed the issue in a tweet this morning.

Initially, Navarra suggested the social media platform had been hit with a “major spam attack”. However, he later said the issue could be due to a newsfeed glitch.

“Lots of Facebook Pages of celebrities have had spammy memes posted to them in the last 24 hours,” he said.

“Updated: Some are suggesting it’s actually a Facebook feed glitch causing these posts to fill user feeds.”

Facebook is yet to confirm any outage or issue with the social media platform.
