The global recruitment company is shifting its focus to serve the tech sector with two new strategic hires.

Glasgow-based Mac Recruit Group (MRG), which offers recruitment services to a number of sectors, is entering the tech sphere on the back of record growth in the Scottish ecosystem.

Stephen Hill will join as director, and Kevin Allan will be a principal consultant. The two new members have a history in the tech sector, and say their new position in MRG will give them an opportunity to do things differently to grow its tech vertical.

MRG was founded in 2019 by recruitment professionals and entrepreneurs Iain McBride and Tracy McGrath. The company has since placed nearly 2,000 candidates in careers across various sectors such as renewables, engineering, oil and gas, and education.

Last year, MRG saw record growth, and now intend to grow their team by ten people this year, and move to a larger office in Glasgow in the summer, as well as expand the team to a new office in Aberdeen.

“Although we are a globally focused business, it’s an exciting time in Scotland for tech companies. There has been a resurgence in Scotland’s tech industry and MRG are benefitting from their growth,” said Kevin Allan, new principal consultant.

According to FinTech Scotland, Scottish fintechs have landed over £305 million in funding over the last year, a 200% increase from the previous year. Scotland is home to more than 850 high-growth tech businesses according to research from Beahurst, on track to deliver £624 million in 2023.

The recruitment sector contributed $42.9 billion to the UK economy according to the most recent recruitment industry status report. This number grew by about a quarter from pre-pandemic levels.

On the growth of the sector, MRG Director Tracy McGrath says she sees “no sign of it slowing down at all”, and thanks the tech vertical for the increased growth going forward.
