Renewable parts cuts deal
Glasgow-based Renewable Parts, entered into agreement with Danish energy firm, Ørsted, to increase the volume of parts reused in its UK offshore wind farm operations.

The partnership further strengthens Renewable Parts’ investment to increase sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of the wind industry supply chain.

Ørsted is an established global player in offshore wind power development, this new collaborative agreement will see Renewable Parts take charge in the refurbishment of their wind turbines.

“Achieving Net-Zero is a commitment for all organisations and wind power is one of the greenest energy sources to achieve that goal.  However, it’s vital we ensure our supply chain is as green as the energy it supports,” said James Barry, Chief Executive of Renewable Parts

Thanks to the scale of Ørsted’s operations, the agreement will also herald new jobs and skills to be added to Renewable Parts’ remanufacturing base in Lochgilphead on the west coast of Scotland.

“This collaborative agreement with Renewable Parts further strengthens our relationship with the UK supply chain and highlights the wider value the offshore wind sector brings to the economy,” said Marc Adams, Senior Supply Chain Development Manager at Ørsted.

There are more than 43 offshore wind farm projects in the UK. Ørsted currently has 13 in operation which together produce 6.2GW, or  6,200,000,000 watts of energy. That would be enough energy to power over 6 million homes for one hour. One of Ørsted’s 13 wind farms in the UK is the largest in the world. The Hornsea 2, using 165 turbines to generate 1.3 GW of electricity.

The interest in the renewable economy comes in the wake of Ørsted’s commitment to become carbon neutral in its own energy generation and operations by 2025. “There is no better place to utilise parts refurbishment services than the market where we have our most operational assets.”
