Ingenico Group is celebrating a focus campaign on Corporate Social Responsibility with an extra charitable boost.

The group is fast approaching a milestone of £2 million in micro-donations with fintech charity partner Pennies, which have been made through Ingenico point of sale terminals across the UK.

Pennies donates spare change gathered digitally and supports a range of causes, including Macmillan and Make-a-Wish, through retailers such as Boot’s Opticians and Bupa Dental Care.

Shoppers are able to round up while making a purchase or settling a bill through Ingenico’s payment solutions. The company said that it is an ideal, hassle-free way to donate spare change to charity and requires “no sign-up or action” needed afterwards.

Ingenico has supported Pennies with its POS terminals since 2011, and the company is rapidly approaching the £2 million milestone – marking what Ingenico described at a “huge achievement” for the partnership.

With Ingenico-only micro-donations totalling more than £5 million now, digital donations are helping to further support a broad range of small-to-medium causes both in the UK and Ireland.

Alison Hutchinson, CEO at Pennis, commented: “Ingenico was one of the first payment companies to really appreciate the value of what we were trying to achieve at Pennies, and was one of the earliest tech pioneers to enable Pennies back in 2011. As the pace of payments technology accelerates, it is easier than ever for us to shop, socialise and travel increasingly “cashlessly” – which means less loose change to donate ad-hoc.

“Thanks to Ingenico and others, we do still have the capacity to make a difference to causes and communities that inspire us by harnessing the power of digital micro-donations.”

Ian Benn, senior VP, western Europe, banks & acquirers at Ingenico, added: “The Pennies project gives consumers a quick and easy way to give back to the charities they love. The announcement of Pennies nearing the two million donation mark couldn’t have come at a better time, as it coincides with when Ingenico is celebrating a week of Corporate Social Responsibility.”
