Scottish broadband provider, GoFibre, is reminding local charities, community groups and organisations in the Scottish Borders to apply now for its GoFurther Fund before applications close at the end of this month.

The £12,000 funding round, part of GoFibre’s social impact strategy, is designed to help charitable groups deliver projects that make a tangible and lasting difference in the communities served by its network. 

Grants of up to £3,000 are available for initiatives that deliver environmental benefits, strengthen community wellbeing, enhance education and skills, or promote internet safety and digital inclusion.

Since launching in 2023, the network provider’s GoFurther Fund has supported projects across Scotland,  with initiatives that have helped reduce social isolation, improve mental health, expand creative and social opportunities, and strengthen local facilities and services.

Among those are Escape Youth Services in Hawick, which secured funding for an additional youth worker to run its Friday drop-in clinic, and Tartan Talkers, from Fife, which works to prevent male suicide by offering tailored practical and emotional support.

Over the last two years, the fund has also provided targeted support for grassroots charities in Aberdeenshire and Angus, as well as North Northumberland and Teesdale, as part of a wider social impact agenda supporting the communities served by its network. 

“The Borders is full of people who give their time and energy to make life better for their neighbours – whether that’s delivering meals to older residents, running a youth club or helping more folk get online,” said Neil Conaghan, CEO of GoFibre.

“The GoFurther Fund is here to back those efforts, and there are now only ten days left before applications close on 31 January. If you’re a local charity or community group, this is the moment to put your project forward and make sure it gets the support it needs.”
