Edinburgh Napier University has issued a call for placement support for its MSc Computing course. The MSc Computing with Professional Placement programme is directed toward the university’s international student community.

The full-time programme will see students study a variety of modules, encompassing Web Development, Database Systems, Information Systems, Security, User Experience and Business Intelligence & Reporting.

The minimum entry requirement for the course is a Bachelor (Honours) Degree at a 2:1 or equivalent. Through the course, international students can gain “valuable paid work experience in a UK-based organisation”, the university said, while employers can capitalise on a pool of talented and enthusiastic students.

Placements will run for a minimum of 180 hours, starting in September, and can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis.

The university added that placements may be extended if the situation proves “mutually beneficial” for both the student and the employer.

Before undertaking placements, students will attend a series of workshops aimed at familiarising them with aspects of UK-based workplace culture. The partnership will also be shaped by a learning agreement personalised to the needs of the student and the employer, overseen by the university.

Mentoring visits will be organised throughout the collaboration, led by experienced academics trained in ICT strategy and business improvement. These will establish the learning agreement between student and employer while monitoring progress and providing feedback. Online discussion groups will also provide a support network for students throughout their placement.
