NGCs are used to provide 5G services to mobile subscribers. With a NGC, wireless operators can more efficiently manage connectivity and traffic on their networks.
According to the Juniper report, existing infrastructure for monitoring network traffic is insufficient to service the expected 526 million 5G roaming connections by 2027, and the forecasted growth of 3,500% in roaming traffic.
“An inability to detect roaming connections that use valuable network bandwidth risks diminishing the user experience for the operator’s own subscribers,” said Elisha Sudlow-Poole, research analyst for Juniper.
She added: “Operators must invest in roaming solutions that can efficiently identify roaming connections,” she said, pointing to AI-based analytics tools as a solution for network operators.
As it stands, 5G coverage is available in 113 cities and towns across the UK, servicing 68% of the population by the end of 2023, according to a report.
A 5G core is the heart of a 5G mobile network, and is responsible for a handful of essential functions on the network. With connectivity management, 5G cores also manage authentication and authorisation for end users along with subscriber data.

Depending on the quality of 5G service, users can experience download speeds of 1000 Mb/s, compared to 10 Mb/s which is the average for the existing 4G networks, according to network service provider EE. For example, with 5G advancements in Mb/s speeds, a full ultra high definition movie can be downloaded in 10 seconds.
The increase in processing power offered with 5G connectivity will introduce new technology for end users such as tactile internet. Tactile internet is a low-latency system that allows real-time human-machine interaction as it will operate faster than the human brain. Which is applicable to virtual reality and interactive gaming.
An effective NGC infrastructure would also assist technologies such as self driving cars, industry automation, remote surgery, smart home systems and more.
