Nile, an Edinburgh-based strategic design company, have announced the acquisition of Dig Inclusion and its flagship accessibility prodcut, Hugr.
Early in the field of accessibility, Dig Inclusion is dedicated to making digital media inclusive for everyone.
In acquiring the company, Nile hopes this will help drive the change necessary to make the online world more accessible for everyone, and have a long term impact on future generations.
Sarah Ronald, Founder of Nile, said: “We are excited to welcome Dig to the Nile ecosystem. Their dedication to making technology accessible for all aligns perfectly with our mission to leave behind a better world.”
More than one in five potential UK consumers have a disability and 73% of potential disabled customers experience barriers, on more than a quarter of the websites they visit.
As society shifts towards a digital-first approach, designing inclusive and accessible digital products and services is crucial to ensuring everyone has equal access to the benefits of technology and are not excluded by demographic factors.
Accessibility is a high growth area fuelled by tightening legislation, society’s changing attitudes to disability and rapid technological change.
Dig Inclusions’s Hugr tool enables companies to track the accessibility of their product as they build, allowing inclusion and accessibility to be at the heart of the product rather than an after thought or add on.
Nile, which has customers including NatWest, the University of Edinburgh, and Agilent, hope to benefit from this technology as they are focused on transforming legacy systems and designing digital products and services around people.
Dig’s proven track record in the public, private, and third sectors, with successful projects for the NHS and the Department of Transport, combined with Nile’s service model transformation and platform configuration will enable help large organisations improve adoption and drive impactful change on a more inclusive basis.
