Novosound, the Scottish ultrasound technology company, has moved into its new headquarters at BioCity in Glasgow, with a redeveloped office space and lab launched as the firm continues to scale operations.

Over the last year, the company said it had increased its headcount from thirty-four to forty-two, with key engineering and marketing hires made under the leadership of CEO Dave Hughes.

New hires include Praveen Ashok, who joined the company as technology director, bringing experience from senior roles at eye healthcare device developer Optos, and electric energy group Enoda.

Also joining Novosound is Melissa Hartley, taking on the role of marketing manager, following recent roles with green wellness group Olverum and the Shanti Hospitality Group.

“We’re excited to bring in talented people like Praveen and Melissa, and we will be continuing to hire for additional positions in the new year,” said Hughes.

Along with growing the team, Novosound said it has also recently completed its latest investment, a £2 million round led by Par Equity, as well as securing a contract with a US-based global energy group.

According to the firm, the new contract builds on the commercial progress made with its Ceilidh sensor platform in industrial markets, and the company’s Slanj platform, developed for the healthcare and wearable markets.

Looking forward, Novosound said it will next be featuring its ultrasonic blood pressure monitoring technology at CES 2025, the world’s largest consumer electronics conference, held in Las Vegas between the 7th and 10th of January.

“2024 has been another year of strong revenue growth, and we are putting in place a foundation for ongoing future growth in North American and Asian markets, in addition to the UK and Europe,” added Hughes.

“We are now doing around 70 per cent of our revenue in the States, so that will remain a focus in 2025.”

The company, which was the University of the West of Scotland’s first ever spinout, secured the patent for its wearable ultrasonic instrumentation system in March this year, with the milestone marking Novosound’s twenty-first patent awarded since 2018. 

Since then, the firm has eyed expansion into the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, along with the development of what Novosound claims is the world’s first ultrasonic blood pressure monitor.
