“Scotland is already well placed to capitalise on the enormous opportunities that established clean energy technologies are already delivering,” deputy first minister Kate Forbes said.

The Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) has now opened applications for the 2025 cohort of its TechX Clean Energy Accelerator, startups across the globe can now apply for a place on the programme and a share of £500k grant funding, with up to £50,000 for each startup.

The TechX Clean Energy Accelerator programme will help scale up the most promising clean energy start-ups through expert mentorship, tailored technology development guidance and commercial growth support. The selected start-ups will also have access to NZTC’s extensive network of advisors, investors, energy operators, and the supply-chain.

NZTC will welcome applications from companies which are actively researching or testing their technology, with specialities focussing on carbon and methane capture and storage, low carbon hydrogen, alternative fuels, and renewable energy.

“I am always amazed at the innovations we see each year through our TechX programmes,” Mark Anderson, chief acceleration officer and TechX director, said. “The disruptive nature of start-ups makes them key players in discovering and advancing nascent technologies that will be required to reach net zero.

“I look forward to welcoming our next cohort of budding start-ups, who will undoubtedly help us unveil new potential to help expedite a future of clean, resilient and affordable energy.”

Now in its seventh year, the award winning TechX Clean Energy Accelerator has supported nearly 70 startups to date. The programme’s alumni have collectively raised over £106m in equity and generated an aggregate £27.3m in revenue, with the potential to save 20-25 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030.
