Many IT leaders in the UK are reportedly gearing up to exit their jobs, a new report has said. Nearly two out of five IT leaders are planning on jumping ship in the coming two years.

This is after more than a quarter changed jobs in 2023 alone, with over a third admitting they had interviewed for a different role in the last six months.

This is according to a survey commissioned by Auxilion and Hewlett Packard Enterprise tracking the plans of IT leaders in the UK.

The constant reshuffling may be driven by the urge to work with emerging technologies, with over half of UK IT leaders reporting that they would leave their post if their company did not invest in up and coming technologies like AI.

“The movement of senior decision makers, and especially in business-critical roles like IT, creates huge demand and pressure on organizations,” said Niamh Cray, chief people officer at Auxilion, as reported by ITPro.

“Such gaps also have a wider impact in terms of their ability to maintain operations, complete projects and deliver services.

“When it comes to talent and recruitment, we believe businesses should adopt a hybrid approach where they incorporate contractors and resourcing partners. A more flexible model like this means organizations can move swiftly to plug any skills gaps that arise and minimize disruption.”

IT leaders are not the only ones in tech reportedly wanting to change jobs – a recent survey found that nearly half of all tech workers plan on changing their jobs in the next two years.

Tech workers as a whole are dissatisfied, with specialists facing burnout, especially in the cybersecurity sector.

While the report hinted that IT leaders may be changing their job to reach for higher technological aspirations, this could also point to a toxic workplace culture, causing even leadership to jump from job to job.
