Rockstar Games has been hit by hackers in a third-party cloud vendor breach, though the firm says its organisation and players have not been affected.

According to reports over the weekend, ShinyHunters has taken claim over the breach of Rockstar Games’ cloud servers managed by a third-party provider.

The prolific ransomware group claims to have access to a large set of compromised data, with a ransom due by 14 April.

Since the breach was first revealed, Rockstar Games has confirmed that a data breach has occurred.

However, it said that “a limited amount of non-material company information” was compromised in a third-party breach, but “This incident has no impact on our organisations or our players.”

The ransomware group first posted on April 11 that it had gained access to the video game firm’s Snowflake servers, the cloud-hosting firm.

“Rockstar Games, your Snowflake instances were compromised thanks to Anodot.com,” the ransomware group’s message read. “Pay or leak. This is a final warning to reach out by 14 Apr 2026 before we leak, along with several annoying (digital) problems that’ll come your way. Make the right decision, don’t be the next headline.”

Hackers gained access to the data not by breaching Snowflake’s defences, but allegedly through a vulnerability exposed by a breach on Anodot, a cloud analytics software service used by many firms including Rockstar to manage their cloud data.

It is unclear right now what data ShinyHunters had access to, but reports show it is unlikely to be personal data or passwords.

The hack was more likely related to internal commercial data, such as contracts and financial documents.

Rockstar Games is no stranger to major breaches.

In 2023, it suffered a data leak at the hands of 18-year-old Ario Kurtaj who published video clips of the unreleased Grant Theft Auto 6 game. Kurtaj has since been sentenced to life in a hospital prison after his infamous hacking spree.
