Scottish underwater robotics company HonuWorx has received a seven-figure funding boost.

Based in Aberdeen, the robotics business creates autonomous, all-electric submarines to help cut costs and emissions for offshore repair and maintenance work.

The latest investment into the firm was led by Scottish angel syndicate TRICAPITAL, as well as national economic development agency Scottish Enterprise and existing investor UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund (UKI2S).

The investment into HonuWorx comes amid plans to triple its current workforce of 12 in the next three years, as well as target more than £30 million in further investment.

With its fleet of “Loggerhead” submarine systems, remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) are deployed and then controlled by onshore operators, thereby reducing costs for subsea repair and inspection efforts.

Further, by replacing heavily-crewed vehicles, the system can remove the equivalent emissions of 4,000 cars per vessel displaced.
